Statement on US and Israel's strikes on Iran

IRAN HEADER
The world is not a safer place after Khameini’s assassination.

The US and Israel’s illegal unilateral strikes on Iran have run roughshod over international law and have put the lives of millions of people at risk. It is the responsibility of all governments, allies or otherwise, to call for an immediate step back from military strikes and a return to peace negotiations to bring about lasting stability and security in the Middle East.

The US and Israel are responsible for the ongoing genocide in Gaza, ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, bombing of Lebanon, blockade on Cuba and kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela to name just a few egregious breaches of international law in recent months, and cannot be held up as true advocates of peace and global security.

We are deeply concerned that the British government has failed to recognise the immediate danger and lasting repercussions of the actions of the US and Israel, and has acted as a weak vassal state for grotesque imperialism by allowing the US to use UK bases for operations in the Middle East. They have done so without so much as a statement in Parliament, clarity on involvement from British personnel or expected timescale of operations.

We are witnessing a dangerous war of aggression, launched by the US and Israel amid negotiations with the Iranian leadership, that has already caused untold death and destruction across the Middle East. The US and Israel must face sanctions for these despicable breaches of international law, with all governments working tirelessly for a return to diplomacy to achieve peace and security for all in the region.
